About Us
Our Story

Village Ski Hut has been a staple of the greater Kootenay ski community since we first opened our doors in 1968, making us the oldest continually operating ski shop in Nelson, BC.

Our friendly and knowledgeable staff have a wealth of experience in many different aspects of the ski industry, and we take our time to ensure our customers are matched with the right equipment and services to meet their needs.

Village Ski Hut is more than just a ski shop—it is a community, and we find a deep satisfaction in helping the same people we share laps with at Whitewater Ski Resort.

Passion For Skiing

Fueled by our staff’s passion for skiing, we take great strides to give back to our local ski community. We help local freeride skiers and racers to achieve their goals through our Grassroots Sponsorship programs, and provide a home base for a talented list of athletes competing both regionally and internationally.

We also offer a Children’s Ski Equipment Buyback program, providing 50% refund as a credit on yearly trade-ins of new youth equipment purchased at our shop.

Our goal is to make skiing affordable and accessible to the members of our community, and as skiers ourselves, we understand the unique challenges that skiers face and find solutions that keep you and your family on the hill, and out of the shop.

Our amazing people!

Heather Renwick

Owner

Heather Renwick is a born-and-raised Nelsonite and began her career at Village Ski Hut as a teenager. She continued to foster her passion for snowsports at Selkirk College in the SROAM program, and after 15 years in the shop, she recently stepped in as the shop’s new owner. She’s a full-time mother to two boys, Owen and Mason, and spends her free time passing along the Sproul family’s passion for skiing to the next generation of Whitewater rippers.

Ian McAdams

Founder and Manager

Ian is the heart and soul of Village Ski Hut. He bought into the store back in 1978 and has been servicing the ski community of the Kootenays for more than 40 years. His reputation as Nelson’s go-to ski guy is well earned. He has passed the reins to his protege Heather Renwick, but you can still find Ian’s infectious smile around the store mentoring our staff.
